Project Overview
The project proposes the development and implementation of a bespoke training programme designed for a senior’s target group comprising older workers approaching retirement and recent retirees. This will incorporate a training curriculum and a suite of appropriate teaching resources to enable the redeployment of the seniors target group as volunteers to support the development of key civic and social competences within the established and growing migrant communities.
The project proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement affording the seniors target group an opportunity to remain active contributors to society while addressing the ongoing migrant integration objectives of Member States.
Project aim
The overall aim of the project is to produce interactive adult education resources, innovative approaches for migrant integration; and active ageing opportunities for senior citizens.
Objectives
The specific objective of the project is to provide a wide range of support for those working for adult education, volunteerism and migrant inclusion and will help foster wider engagement with the interactive digital infrastructures created, with the aims to:
- provide a supportive online digital environment where senior volunteers can remain active contributors to societies and where migrants can build key skills that will help them achieve integration;
- help achieve integrated migrant communities that are appropriately informed to participate fully in the social civic life of their new country;
- provide clear evidence that senior citizens can be retrained to address persistent social issues in their communities and that they have a profound role to play in the Europe of tomorrow;
- raise awareness of the positive attributes of bespoke digital media learning environments and the potential they offer for providing training to groups on the margins of provision;
- enhance the reputation of participating adult education, volunteer management and migrant support organisations as centres of excellence in the use of dynamic online learning environments and bespoke online educational resources that will help them to attract a higher calibre of work and/or retain their best staff;
- help ensure that migrants who participate in the training provided will be recognized as active learners keen to build skill sets that are essential for civic and social integration;
- build on the concept of familiar faces across cultural divides to support increased inclusion which is an important element of EU 2020 strategy.

The Rural Hub
The Rural Hub was set up as an association by a group of education, training and rural development professionals as a response to the impact of the economic crisis on small rural villages and towns in Ireland. Since it was first established in 2012, The Rural Hub has been providing a wide range of training and capacity development programmes to local residents and community groups. We specialise in the area of community development and have developed a number of local initiatives to support the social inclusion of disadvantaged rural youth, migrant communities and isolated older residents. We work with these groups, using creative approaches and the testing of digital media resources to support greater social cohesion among local communities in County Cavan. We have a developed network of county-wide stakeholders who support our work on a thematic basis.

Auxilium
Auxilium is a non-profit research and development association located in Graz (AT) with the aim to improve cultural and education exchange between organisations and institutions in Europe. Since 2004, Auxilium has been participating and coordinating many co-operation and exchange projects and strategic partnerships in the fields of education, culture, health and social sciences to support the main aims of the association. On this basis, Auxilium has gathered vast experiences and built-up broad expertise in the planning and implementation of transnational European co-operation projects. Auxilium has been responsible for pedagogical developments as well as for the dissemination strategy of Erasmus+ projects.

Speha Fresia cooperative company
Speha Fresia cooperative company, non-profit organisation, acts since 1983 at national level in the fields of lifelong learning, labour active policies, local sustainable development and social research. By integrating its professional competences with a wide network of public and private institutions, it has been committed in European projects since 1996. Speha Fresia has exploited the European opportunities and the transnational cooperation as “Research & Development” function, with the aims at sharing knowledge, best practices, developing innovative methods and tools, in order to improve the quality of our educational provision. The cooperative is associated to Legacoop, one of the biggest cooperatives associations in Italy. Local networks are composed by other cooperatives, mainly those engaged in social and inclusion policies, associations, public bodies (regional government, municipalities, employment services, schools and universities), trade organisations. These networks are active both in Latium region, and in Sicily, where we have our secondary seat.

Volunteering Matters is a national UK charity, founded in 1962, initially to provide full time volunteering opportunities for young people in the UK away from home. In the intervening years it has grown and developed into an organisation that provides volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. We still provide full time volunteering placements for young people, increasingly now from all over the European Union and beyond. Our volunteers, whether they volunteer regularly once a week or once a month, support some of the most vulnerable individuals, families and communities in the UK.
